Star Trek Movie Action Figures

More news out of ToyFair. Looks like Star Trek is getting some much needed love (compared to its whored out spiritual brother, Star Wars), and Hasbro has announced a new line of Star Trek Toys. We’ll have to wait a bit (the line is tied to the new movie and has an intended release date of early 2013)

First up will be a line of premium KRE-O (read as Lego, but for legal reasons Hasbro can’t call them that. A toy Hasbro doesn’t own? I know, they do exist) Star Trek building sets that will feature legendary characters and familiar spaceships from the enduring Star Trek franchise. Finally, an official Lego Enterprise in the proper colors and shapes. When I try to make one myself it always ends with the saucer being a big red square and then I give up in frustration. The KRE-O Star Trek sets will feature high-quality KRE-O bricks, as well as new KREON (minimate) figures in the likeness of popular Trek characters. Further, Hasbro will also offer a line of role-play toys as well as select new figures with which kids and fans can act out fantastical Star Trek adventures of their own imagining.

Sounds awesome, but this would not be the first time Trekkies have been burned in the toy department. Current licencee Diamond Select Toys have yet to release their planned Enterprise B and Klingon Warbird toys announced at Toyfair 2010. (Don’t even get me started on DST and their incompetence, that’s a post for another day. But when they do make stuff, it’s generally of high quality, at least as far as their toys go.) Also, what this means for Playmates has yet to be determined. They made the last set of toys for the last movie, but only half as many as planned, so now I will never be able to fully complete my bridge or transporter playset!

It’s always nice to see more Star Trek Toys, and you can bet I’ll be picking up the full line. Will you? Let us know in the comments.
