To Comic Books, Friday Five

Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know me a little better with the help of a Top 5 list. This week’s topic: Favorite Comic Book Artists.

Great writing is only half the story when it comes to comics. If I just wanted something to read I have plenty of books. No, the great thing about comics is all the visuals. While a bad artist can take a great story and make it unreadable, a good artist can elevate a bad story to new heights with creative and evocative artwork.

  1. Jim Lee – I loved all his work on X-men back in the 90’s, in particular the X-Men series 1 cardset, and his new take on Justice League (especially Batman) is pretty badass.
  2.

  3. J Scott Campbell – He sure knows how to draw hot busty ladies. It’s the reason I have a near full run of Gen 13
  4.

  5. Greg Horn – Another one who draws a hot lady, I particularly like his run of She Hulk covers
  6.

  7. Michael Turner – Sensing a pattern? While some may think the proportions were all wrong, I really liked his take on Supergirl.
  8.

  9. Jack Kirby/Steve Ditko – The classic originators of the Marvel Method

is the proud owner of a life size replica Captain Kirk Chair. He is a hoarder of Comic Books, Transformers, and Star Trek action figures. He attended Space Camp as an adult. He has taken vacations to the closing of the Star Trek Experience and the final night Shuttle launch. He has been known to yell at his television when the kids can't put together the damn statue in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. When not writing for InsufficientScotty, he is a Software Engineer for a major healthcare communications company.
