Stan Lee’s voice is just pure awesomesauce

So the new Amazing Spider-Man movie comes out here in the states tomorrow. It’s already been out overseas for two weeks, and it’s on pace to outsell The Avengers, as if that were even possible. I for one am looking forward to it, even if it seems kind of needless to reboot a 10 year old franchise. Emma Stone makes a much better Gwen Stacy than Kristen Dunst made a Mary Jane anyday. So you know what goes hand in hand with big summer movies? Lots of tie in merchandise! One such example is this awesome book I found while doing one of my standard toy runs at the local Target: A read along story book of Spider-Man’s origins, as read by “The Man” himself, Stan Lee!

Stan Lee’s voice is just awesome, I would pay to listen to him read the phone book, and I’m sure it would be the most epic thing ever. When I saw this, I couldn’t resist. Ostensibly, I bought it for my 6 year old cousin’s upcoming birthday. Really, I wanted to have Stan Lee read me a bedtime story. I mean, who wouldn’t? And it was only $7.99. I’ve shared a clip of it below, but only included the beginning (which is hilarious, because Stan literally reads you the title page) and the important part at the end just so you can hear Stan Lee say “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility©”

The whole thing is about 12 minutes long, and for a children’s book, does a fair job encapsulating Spidey’s origin down to a level children can understand. The artwork is pretty good, and has that whole “children’s book” kinda vibe going on, as opposed to a straight up comic book thing. If you have $7.99, and can find a copy at your local Target (it’s an exclusive, and last time I went, my store was all sold out), I highly recommend grabbing yourself, or whatever children are in your life, a copy.
