Saturday Six – Pop Culture Bunnies

Posted By on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 1:29 pm
To Captain's Log

So with tomorrow being Easter, I figured today would be a good time to go over rabbits, seeing as I’ve already done cats, dogs, and mice. What does a giant rabbit have to do with Easter, let alone chocolate? The hell if I know. But just remember, over there, that’s just a guy in a suit. Also, the one at the Menlo Park mall is more convincing.

To Captain's Log

If you haven’t been reading IDW’s Star Trek series set in the new movie universe, you’ve been missing out on the full story. It added a bunch of layers to Star Trek Into Darkness, and now the comics are continuing the story of the movie, and it’s pretty interesting. If you liked the movie (and why would you not?), you should give this series a try.

The fallout from this summer’s blockbuster movie STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS continues here, in the fan-favorite ongoing series overseen by TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci! Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise face a dire new threat rising in the wake of the movie’s momentous events!

Happy Geek Pride Day!

To Captain's Log, Star Wars

Thirty six years ago today, a landmark film was released in the science fiction genre. It’s a little film you may have heard of called Star Wars. In celebration of that glorious day that changed geekdom forever, today is Geek Pride Day, so wear it proudly!

But also, don’t forget the hardships your geek forefathers bore. It wasn’t always as easy to be a geek as it was today. Besides the daily beatings in school, we had it hard. Nowadays you can transfer files just by touching your phones together, that’s insane!

Back in my day we used floppy disks, and hundreds of them, or those horribly designed Zip disks. Or if we wanted to download an image from our favorite BBS (not the Internet, but BBS, the Internet wasn’t even a thing yet) it would take like 30 minutes, not .08 seconds. My first hard drive was 235 MB. MEGAbytes. Now my laptop has 2 Terabytes by default. That’s a million times bigger! Don’t believe how hard it always was, check out this timeline on the History of File Sharing to see how far we’ve come in just over 40 years.

Friday Five – Worst Super Powers

Posted By on Friday May 3, 2013 at 2:22 pm
To Captain's Log, Friday Five

Not every super power is useful. I mean, I think we can all agree that money is the best superpower (see: Batman and Iron Man). But for every radioactive spider bite that gives you super strength and the ability to climb walls, there’s an mutant who can change their hair color at will, which is not great for winning fights with Magneto.

Happy Halloween

I’m still reeling from the effects of Sandy the Frankenstorm, and am without power at home, so content may be light for a while. However, in the spirit of today being Halloween, here is a picture I colored of a pumpkin patch. Enjoy! Have a happy Halloween, and stay safe.

Operation “Let’s Build a Goddamn Tesla Museum”

Posted By on Thursday August 16, 2012 at 2:16 pm
To Captain's Log

Tesla was the greatest geek ever, and pretty much invented all the best stuff in the history of ever, like modern electricity and the light bulb. “But I thought Edison did alot of that” I can hear you saying. No, you would be wrong. Edison was an asshole. And this is coming from someone who went to T.A Edison elementary school.
