Welcome to the Friday Five. Each week I help you get to know me a bit better with the help of a top five list. This week I list my five favorite holiday specials.

There’s a reason TV has been showing the same Christmas specials for over 40 years. All the best ones are classics that pretty much define Christmas for many people. While many of my picks aren’t on TV every year, I always make an effort to watch them each christmas season.

  1. A Charlie Brown Christmas – Makes me cry, every time.
  2.

  3. Olive, The Other Reindeer – Another tearjerker. And who wouldn’t love a Christmas special with the comic sensibilities of an episode of Futurama?
  4.

  5. He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special – If you’ve never seen this, it is insane. He-Man and She-Ra end up on earth, and the spirit of Christmas manages to turn Skeletor good. Yes, really. He even wears a Santa hat and saves a bunch of children stranded in the snow.
  6.

  7. Mickey’s Christmas Carol – Still my favorite version of the Charles Dicken’s classic, with Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge.
  8.

  9. A Muppet Family Christmas – One of the few times all 4 muppet franchises come together: The Muppets, Fraggle Rock, Sesame Street, and Muppet Babies

And special mention to Community and its epic spoofs of Christmas specials – “Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas” and “Regional Holiday Music”, because I never miss a chance to push Community.
