Welcome the the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know me a bit better with the help of a Top Five list. This week’s category: Foreign TV Shows

We as Americans tend to be jaded and assume that our TV shows are the best and only thing out there. When in fact, the entertainment industries in a lot of non-US countries is really kicking our ass and making awesome shows that Americans would never dream of showing. You may need to search them out, but they are well worth the effort.

  1. Transformers: Armada (Japan) – The best of all the Transformers series, and I should know, I’ve watched them all. That includes all the japanese exclusive ones, like Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, and Zone, so I know of which I speak. And that was back before the Michael Bay movies came out, so I suppose that makes me a Transformers Hipster. The first torrent I ever downloaded was one of the final episodes, as they aired in Canada weeks before they aired in the US. Before then I downloaded them all taking weeks to finish a whole series though Direct Connect. Remember that?
  2.

  3. Cowboy Bebop (Japan) – One of the most down downer endings ever, but also the most satisfying, though it worked much better in English than Japanese. “Banguu” just don’t have the same ring as “Bang”. You’re gonna carry that weight.
  4.

  5. The Office (UK) – Not as good as what it begate, but still have to love if for being the spawn point.
  6.

  7. Battlestar Galactica (UK) – Though I never got past season 3 when they changed the time slot to Friday nights, it was awesome, and the first season was a co-op between Sci-Fi and Sky1.
  8.

  9. Degrassi (Canada) – I’ve got a weird thing for Canadian melodrama. And girls who say “Aboot”
