The Console Wars are in full swing. To celebrate, I’m taking this time to go back and pick the best games of all the previous generations that I think You (Probably) Should Have Played, one letter at a time.

Check out all the other entries in the Games You (Probably) Should Have Played series if you haven’t already.

Earthworm Jim (GEN – 1994)
Usually pop culture works by making video games out of established properties. For Earthworm Jim, Playmates Toys tried to do the exact opposite, starting with a video game first that they could later spin off into other media. The studio that made the game, Shiny Entertainment, had only ever done licensed games, which meant they were always restricted by the IP of the license. When they developed their own universe, they went ball to the wall crazy, leading to a fun slapsticky platformer that was a spoof of many of the gaming conventions at the time. And it did lead to many sequels and an animated series, so mission accomplished.
