The Console Wars are in full swing. To celebrate, I’m taking this time to go back and pick the best games of all the previous generations that I think You (Probably) Should Have Played, one letter at a time.

Check out all the other entries in the Games You (Probably) Should Have Played series if you haven’t already.

F-Zero (SNES – 1991)
While I am tempted to go with FFVII, I’m gonna go a different route. F-Zero was one of the launch titles of the SNES, and did some groundbreaking work in the field of 3D graphics, which really helped solidify the SNES’ capabilities over the Genesis. F-Zero was the first game to use Mode 7 graphics, which allowed for backgrounds to be resized and rotated on a scanline-by-scanline basis, giving a real sense of perspective. This made the racing action seem extremely fast, as the background was literally coming right at you as you sped along. It also had a totally awesome soundtrack, with different songs for each track. Only thing missing: Two player mode.

He has taken vacations to the closing of the Star Trek Experience and the final night Shuttle launch. He has been known to yell at his television when the kids can't put together the damn statue in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. When not writing for InsufficientScotty, he is a Software Engineer for a major healthcare communications company.
