Dojo Wars
Well, since I don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, every other week I’ll be attending Dojo Wars, their bi-weekly “House Show”. It’s 5 matches for 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? Because the only way to see the show is to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, I’ll let you in on all the details with a full results list, pictures and match breakdown.

This week was a mixed bag at the old Dojo Wars with a lot of strange goings on. The ref split his pants almost immediately in the first match, there was a 40 minute 10 person elimination match in which no eliminations happened for a half hour (during which my camera battery died), and oddest of all was a Scepter on a Pole match fought over a trenchcoat. You can’t make this stuff up.

Results:

  • Joey Janela, Rex Lawless, and Mr. Grim defeated Amber Rodriguez, Slugger Clark and Lennon Duffy
  • Gregory Sharpe defeated Rob Prefontaine
  • Trooper Audubon defeated Andrew Wolf in a Scepter On A Pole match for his coat.
  • Drew Gulak, Brittany Blake, Joe Gacy, “Uptown” Ulysses Uecker, and Kit Osbourne defeated Dan O’Hare, Penelope Ford, Frankie Pikard, Curt Robinson, and George Gatton in an elimination match
  • Conon Claxton defeated Eric Corvis in a two out of three falls match for the Medal of Valor

Joey Janela, Rex Lawless, and Mr. Grim vs Amber Rodriguez, Slugger Clark and Lennon Duffy

Janela came out all greased up and started yelling at his opponents about how they should have brought him crabcakes since they are from Baltimore. Janela executed a very nice bridged German suplex. Lawless went for a Swagger Bomb and came up empty handed. Slugger hit a big spine buster on Janela. Janela then hit a big sitout powerbomb on Duffy. By far the best part was the ending, where Lawless asked to borrow Mr. Grim’s gloves and then chokeslammed Slugger for the win while Grim was on the outside pulling Rodriguez and Duffy off the apron.

Winner: Joey Janela, Rex Lawless, and Mr. Grim
Bell Time: 16:25

Gregory Sharpe vs Rob Prefontaine

The crowd wasn’t really into this match, as both participants were making their first appearance in the Dojo. It also didn’t help that Sharpe ran to the ring at full speed while screaming like a maniac. Not a high energy run and shout like Ultimate Warrior or Mojo Rawley, like full on demented, where I was legitimately terrified of him. This was a short match, but it was incredibly stiff. There were many slaps exchanged back and forth, but there was one from Prefontaine to Sharpe while they were outside the ring right in front of me that was so loud it hurt my ears. How they both managed not to get the wind knocked out of them is beyond me. Sharpe got the win when he jumped backwards off the second turnbuckle and hit an RKO.

Winner: Gregory Sharpe

Andrew Wolf vs Trooper Audubon

Up next was the Scepter on a Pole match, with the winner getting possession of Trooper’s trenchcoat, which Wolf won at the last Dojo Wars. Trooper came to the ring in a fleece jacket, while Wolf wore his usually cape over the the trenchcoat. This wasn’t as big a match as last time, but it was still entertaining. Wolf went for the People’s Elbow early, but Trooper threw up his knees and blocked it. Wolf however was able to successfully execute the double axehandle from the top rope, transitioned into a Three Amigos. Trooper went for the scepter, but Wolf was able to stop him and reverse it into a Superplex. Both then went for the scepter, but each had trouble keeping their balance, and fell spread over the ropes. Wolf was then able to get the scepter, and hit a Rock Bottom. The two fought over the scepter, with Trooper able to come away with it, beating Wolf with it. Wolf was able to escape, and went for another Rock Bottom, but Trooper hit him again with the scepter and picked up the pinfall victory, leaving with both his coat and the scepter.

Winner: Trooper Audubon

Dan O’Hare, Penelope Ford, Frankie Pikard, Curt Robinson, and George Gatton vs Drew Gulak, Brittany Blake, Joe Gacy, “Uptown” Ulysses Uecker, and Kit Osbourne

This was the weirdest elimination match I’ve ever seen. It went just over 40 minutes, but there wasn’t a single elimination for like a half hour. It was a good match, but it just got to be too long, so that everyone was actively cheering for eliminations. It also didn’t help that this week was the latest starting event yet, and there was the extra extended intermission while we waited for the ref to get new pants, so we were all there far later than usual, and we just wanted to go home. Gulak held Pikard in a headlock and gave him a noogie, then commented that it felt like a Brillo pad, then said he didn’t mean it to sound racist, it’s just what it felt like. Kit said that if he had been getting the noogie it would have felt silky and smooth. Penelope looked pretty green tonight, even if she did hit the handspring correctly again, her moves were slow and you could tell her opponents were directing her. Even so, she managed to reverse a dropkick from Brittany off the top turnbuckle into a Boston Crab, which was a neat combo. Usually Brittany is the one who takes the beating, but this time it was Robinson who was in the ring getting worked over for an extended amount of time, with all 5 members of the other team tagging in and out repeatedly for a good 10 minutes. After roughing Penelope up a bit, Ulysses picked her up and danced her around the ring, literally. He took her hand and proceeded to Tango her around. In the end, the last person standing was Brittany Blake, which is really nice to see her actually prevail singularly, and not just be cannon fodder for the bigger guys or sparsely used in a larger tag team.

  • Curt Robinson submitted to “Uptown” Ulysses Uecker’s half boston crab/half layover bridge thingy that I still don’t know what to call.
  • George Gatton pinned by Kit Osbourne after a elbow drop from the top turnbuckle
  • Drew Gulak pinned by Penelope Ford with a Rainbow Bridge
  • Kit Osbourne pinned by Penelope ford with a roll over scholgirll
  • Penelope Ford pinned by Brittany Blake after a DDT
  • “Uptown” Ulysses Uecker submitted to Dan O’Hare in a half Boston Crab
  • Frankie Pikard submitted to Joe Gacy in a Rings of Saturn
  • Joe Gacy pinned by Dan O’hare after a Tilt a Whirl slam
  • Dan O’hare pinned by Brittany Blake after Stratisfaction

Winner: Brittany Blake
Bell Time: 40:44

Conor Claxton vs Eric Corvis

So no pictures for this one, as apparently I didn’t charge my battery enough and my camera died before this bout got started. This match seemed to be a little rushed from it’s intended pace, as it didn’t get started until 10:20. Corvis started the match off with a standard collar and elbow tie up, but then proceeded to bite Claxton’s arm. Both competitors ended up outside the ring, and Corvis threw Claxton into the ringpost, legitimately. I heard the loud clang of Claxton’s head as it made contact. He was a little woozy for a bit, but was able to pull himself together and retain his Medal of Valor.

  • Conor Claxton pinned Eric Corvis with a crucifix pin after reversing a jump from the top rope.
  • Eric Corvis reversed a second crucifix pin attempt into a crucifix pin of his own
  • Connor Claxton forced Eric Corvis to submit to a bridging armbar

Winner: Conor Claxton
Bell Time: 9:53

Forgive me if I goof on some names and spellings, I try to research them as best I can, but many of the participants at these shows are new wrestlers so there isn’t anything online about them yet and I have to go by what I think I hear the announcer say.
