Dojo Wars 22

Well, since I don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, every other week I’ll be attending Dojo Wars, their bi-weekly “House Show”. It’s 5 matches for 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? Because the only way to see the show is to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, I’ll let you in on all the details with a full results list, pictures and match breakdown.

This week was crazy, having not one, but two bonus matches. The extra matches really help with the flow of the evening, meaning the main event doesn’t have to be a crazy multi man elimination match to fill time, so I hope they consider doing it more often. That’s just $0.71 a match, where else are you gonna get that? With two title matches even! Most episodes of Smackdown don’t even have seven matches. On the down side, apparently ring announcer Emil J was MIA, so we got Larry from The Three Stooges instead, hence why some matches have no belltime. And now, on to the action.

Results:

  • Bee Boy defeated Frankie Pikard
  • Joey Janela defeated Curt Robinson
  • Ryan Galeone defeated George Gatton
  • Eric Corvis defeated Dan O’Hare

  • Joe Gacy defeated Brittany Blake to retain the Wired Championship

Frankie Pikard vs. Bee Boy

So Bee Boy is a bee, literally (although I find the lack of a stinger on his trunks vexing to say the least). Even Bumblebee Man has a stinger. The match started with a series of arm drags. Frankie spent most of the match working over Bee Boy’s knee, including several submission attempts and a Dragon Screw leg whip. Bee Boy however pulled out what I assume you would call a FrankenStinger, and then followed it up with a Stinger (RKO) into a Jackknife pin for the win. Bee puns!

Winner: Bee Boy

Joey Janela vs. Curt Robinson

Janela started out with his usual amount of “Bad Boy” smacktalk. They then went into an exchange of amatuer style mat wrestling. Even though he hasn’t really shown any expertise in it before, Janela was able to hold his own with Robinson. Janela then got cocky, and went down into the Par Terre starting position. Robinson got the better of him, and forced Janela to scramble for the ropes. After the break, Janela slapped the crap out of Robinson across the face, and hit a double underhook suplex. Robinson managed to fight back and hit a mean looking fisherman’s suplex and a solid German, but it just wasn’t his night. Janela picked him up and it looked like he was going to hang him in a Tree of Woe, but instead he piledrove him right in the corner for the win.

Winner: Joey Janela

George Gatton vs. Ryan Galeone

Galeone tried to muscle around Gatton, but Gatton managed to stay with him step for step throughout most of the match. Gatton threw Galeone into the corner, hit him with a succession of Knife Edge chops, and then he tossed in a DX “Suck It” chop to add insult to injury. Despite the height difference, Gatton managed to pull off a nice German suplex. Though he fought valiantly, one strong kick to the back of his head put Gatton down for good.

Winner: Ryan Galeone
Bell Time: 5:45

Dan O’Hare vs. Eric Corvis

For some reason Corvis wrestled wearing not just a vest and tie, but both a belt and suspenders. Who does he think he is, Jack Harkness? This was a pretty evenly matched bout, with them trading offense back and forth. Corvis got O’Hare tied up in the corner and hit a few good chops. O’Hare countered with the classic Body Slam-Leg Drop combo. O’Hare had Corvis down several times, but couldn’t get the three because of some sloppy pin attempts. We kept chanting for him to “Hook the Leg”, and when he finally did the crowd erupted in cheers, even though Corvis kicked out. O’Hare tied up Corvis in a Half Crab, and then hit a elbow from the top turnbuckle. Corvis however distracted the ref and hit a low blow to get the pin.

Winner: Eric Corvis

Josh Adams and LJ Cruz vs. Sozio and Penelope Ford

This was a fun bout, due to the energy Sozio and Ford brought to the match as “Team TacocaT” (see Sozio’s shirt). Just a week after changing gimmicks, Adams got all in Sozio’s face about letting people like Ford take his spot. Sozio countered that Dojo Wars isn’t about anyone’s “spot”, but that he was there to teach and help the students, not hold them down. Ford went for the back handspring, but over rotated, and slipped through the ropes and nearly out of the ring. After that, Sozio got the hot tag, then hit a flurry of chops in the corner, forcing Adams to the ground, and then Sozio continued to rain down with some stomps. Sozio tagged Ford back in and she went for the handspring again, and mostly got it, but also kicked Adams pretty hard in the arm on the final rotation. Sozio then picked her up, and used her as a battering ram running her right into Cruz after he tagged in. She then went for a third back handspring, and managed to hit it flawlessly, getting a huge pop. After that, she picked up the pin with the Rainbow Bridge.

Winner: Sozio and Penelope Ford

Rex Lawless vs. Conor Claxton

Theres not much to add to this match for the Medal of Valor besides the pinfalls, as it was a pretty straightforward match of size vs. speed.

  • Rex Lawless pinned Conor Claxton after a Pazuzu Bomb-Big Boot-Sitout Powerbomb combo
  • Conor Claxton pinned Rex Lawless after reversing a kick attempt into a Reverse Straddle Clutch
  • Connor Claxton forced Rex Lawless to submit to the Cross Armbar after an armbreaker

Winner: Conor Claxton

Brittany Blake vs. Joe Gacy

It’s nice to finally see Brittany be given a bit of the spotlight to really shine all by herself, and for the Wired Title no less! If the theme of the night was Power vs. Speed, this is the quintessential example. So much so I had trouble getting any clear pictures the action was so fast and furious. Gacy is easily twice as big as Brittany is, so there was a bit of strained credulity here, as realistically all her moves should bounce right off him. Regardless, they put on a great match. Gacy kept throwing her around the ring, she kept using her speed to dart away and then kick Gacy in the back of his knees to ground him, and then various submissions to wear his knee down further. Gacy sat her on the top turnbuckle and tried to superplex her, but she slipped down and manged to Powerbomb him, then she climbed to the top and hit a Missile Dropkick, followed by a Hurricanrana to toss Gacy outside the ring. She then charged the ropes and took a dive through them, knocking Gacy right into my empty seat (fortunately I was paying attention and got the hell out of the way or I would have been flattened). Brittany seemed to be on the up and up, but she went for a Wheelbarrow DDT, but Gacy reversed it into a Full Nelson drop and then into The Rings of Saturn for the submission.

Winner: Joe Gacy
