Friday Five – Futurama Episodes
I’m a big fan of all the emotional episodes of Futurama. Most people just think of it as Matt Groening’s other funny little cartoon, but they told some pretty powerful stories.
- The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings – I love a good musical, and I don’t think I’ve seen a more perfect ending to a series since “All Good Things” in TNG.
- Jurassic Bark – I’ll cry at almost anything, but this one always leaves me like a schoolgirl with a skinned knee.
- Where No Fan Has Gone Before – How could I not love this? Voice cameos from all living Star Trek main players? Sign me up! Also, it beautifully sums my view on Star Trek. To quote:
Fry: The world needs Star Trek to give people hope for the future.
Leela: But it’s set 800 years in the past.
Bender: Yeah, why is it so important you?
Fry: Because it… it taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female… But most importantly, when I had no friends, it made me feel like maybe I did. - The Why of Fry – I love the continuity, explaining why Fry had to come to the future, and I don’t know why, but the Scooty Puff Junior/Senior gag gets me every time. I would totally get that as a tattoo.
- Parasites Lost – I like that Fry was allowed to grow as a character as a result of the worm’s actions, and that he was strong enough to see if Leela really liked him or the worms
