The Avengers

Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know me a little better with the help of a Top 5 list! This weeks topic: AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

In the spirit of Avengers vs. X-men, for this week and next week, I’m gonna draft my own Avengers and X-Men teams respectively.

Most of my exposure to the ‘A’ team was through their West Coast branch, because for some reason I bought a copy of Avengers West Coast #1 simply because I could when I was a kid. I’m gonna try to avoid the big names and go with a more offbeat list. While I could just use the Fantastic Four and Spider Man (really, look it up), here’s my list.

  1. Wonder Man – I always just thought it was funny that Marvel made a “Wonder Man” to compete with “Wonder Woman”, but I do have almost all of his self-titled series.
  2.

  3. Spider Woman (Julia Carpenter) – Any version would be good, but I prefer the black costume Carpenter wore (which was the inspiration for Peter Parker’s black suit in Secret Wars #8). I have complete sets of both her mini series
  4.

  5. She Hulk – I wasn’t much into the Bruce Banner version (who was only an Avenger for 1 issue, yet he’s still in the movie), but give all that strength and power to his hot female cousin? I’m in. I have almost the complete run of Sensational She Hulk
  6.

  7. Scarlet Witch – The whole reason behind several of Marvel’s recent big events. Who would have thought three little words could do such damage? I also have her full mini series, and her limited series with the Vision.
  8.

  9. Squirrel Girl – It just amuses me to no end that there is a superhero whose only power is talking to squirrels. And she’s defeated several heavyweights in the Marvel Universe, including Dr. Doom, Thanos, M.O.D.O.K., Mandarin, Fin Fang Foom, Wolverine, and Deadpool.
