Avengers Versus X-Men Act Two (Issues 6-8)

Written by: Hickman, Fraction, Bendis

Art by: Coipel, Morales, Kubert, Dell, Martin

I’ve been picking up every AvX branded title each week all crossover long, and I have to say the main story is pretty good, but even though there are so many tie ins, I feel that I’m missing big chunks of story, like too much is happening off panel and isn’t explained properly. A lot of this has to do with the shipping order, the tie ins and and the main series are moving at vastly different paces, and it gets to be confusing. Also, there are so far 8 different tie in series, but only maybe 3 seem really connected to the plot overall. AvX:VS is just splashy fight scenes, and doesn’t really count plotwise, but I did enjoy the beatdown between Magik and Black Widow, the art in that was really nice. Avengers Academy has been a waste, Justin and his sentinel, while a moving story that proves Emma is a bitch, doesn’t really have anything to do with anything. Avengers and Secret Avengers have been focused on Hala and the Kree, which I couldn’t care about. Over in Uncanny, there’s a underground army of Mr. Sinisters being all sinister? Boring. But I did enjoy Colossus’ interactions with Cyttorak. Kid Gladiator and his family issues in Wolverine & the X-men? Pass. However Rogue and her interactions with Ms. Marvel over in X-Men: Legacy are interesting, if only for all their history together. New Avengers has been . . . interesting. I don’t think I like the weird retconning that the Earth was visited in the past by the Phoenix, and the Iron Fists were involved with saving us, but I do like the interactions between Hope and Spider-Man as he trains her how to be a hero. I wish they would downplay some of the “absolute power corrupts absolutely” angle, as they aren’t using it evenhandedly. Namor going rouge and attacking Wakanda makes some sense, but him and Emma making out doesn’t. Cyclops I expect to be a douche, but Magik seems to be a bitch just for the sake of being a bitch. I am however interested for the endgame of just what all this is leading towards. There’s only 3 issues left, and there seems to be way too much story left to tell. I wish we’d just get around to giving the Phoenix to Hope and have her be the savior and get on with it already.
