Friday Five – Video Game Franchises
Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know me a little better with the help of a top 5 list. This week’s category: Video Game Franchises.
This one is a tough one for me, as I’ve never really played many games besides Super Dodge Ball, Bad News Baseball, and Star Trek Online.
- Dragon Warrior/Quest – I played the hell out of Dragon Warrior 1, even though I discovered a weird glitch. If you set your name to all dashes, and use the first 3 codes in the Game Genie book, you start the game with the Rainbow Bridge already in place. I however did not find this out until after I got all the shit for it.
- Grand Theft Auto – I had a blast running people over in GTA2, trying to get that “Gouranga!”. For some reason I bought GTA3:Vice City on launch day, because I was at GameStop at the mall and they said it was their last one, which I know now was a lie. There’s no better way to let off steam than to steal a tank, get 5 stars, then blow up every cop car that comes at you with a rocket launcher over and over again. So soothing!
- Warcraft – While WoW has gotten kind of bloated, and the story line confusing, what with portals and planets and sunderings and whatnot, the original three games were classics in RTS, especially WCIII.
- Mega Man – I played all the original NES ones and that’s about all, but MM2 is still on my list of greatest games ever, especially the music.
- Since everyone would assume I might say Final Fantasy, I’m gonna go another way and instead say King’s Quest – I believe I’ve mentioned before my love of KQIII, I still have a fair number of the spells memorized. I spent a fair amount of time playing that back in the days before walkthroughs on the internet, back when you had to figure out how to make the dough to put in your ears to talk to squirrels all by yourself. All of the games in the series were quite good (except maybe the NES port of KQ V), especially after they got past the gloried text adventure and become point and click.
