To Take It Or Leave It

Six Gun Gorilla

Welcome to Take It Or Leave It, where each week I pick out new comics and tell you if they’re worth the price and you should take them, or if you should just leave them on the shelf.

I previewed this earlier in the week, and now here’s my full review of Six Gun Gorilla #1, about, unsurprisingly, a large gorilla who shoots guns. He also talks. Of course he does.

Six Gun Gorilla #1 (of 6)

I picked this for this week’s Tuesday Preview on the name alone. Apparently he was in a few pulp stories back in 1939, and this is a re-imagining. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, like they threw parts from a lot of different things against the wall to see what sticks. It’s part Running Man, part Wild Wild West, and part Trigun (if Vash were a giant Silverback Gorilla), but it works. Since this is issue one, they spend a lot of time with the place setting. On every page I was like “WTF is going on here?” and was eagerly awaiting the next page. I’m totally gonna be picking up the rest of this series. Not much Gorilla gunning in this issue as they have to establish the status quo first, but the next issue certainly looks to be exciting.

Verdict: Take It

Score: 8/10
