To Take It Or Leave It

Ant Man

Welcome to Take It Or Leave It, where each week I pick out new comics and tell you if they’re worth the price and you should take them, or if you should just leave them on the shelf.

This week I review Age of Ultron #10 A.I. While most of Age of Ultron proved to be kinda a letdown and a pointless waste of time, this coda showed that it was all leading somewhere. Well, sort of.

I think we can all agree. Ant-Man is a pretty shitty character. He gets small and talks to ants. That is probably usefully exactly once.

But in this issue, Mark Waid weaves a beautiful tale about what it was like to be Hank Pym as a child. It involves some inept parents and a loving grandmother, and goes a long way to explain why Pym became the man he did. I couldn’t help but feel sympathetic towards him, and even begrudgingly liking him.

This issue really doesn’t have much to do with Age of Ultron, and I don’t personally get what the epilogue is trying to setup (other than that now Pym is a badass with nothing to hold him back, and he has his own Avengers team now apparently), but this book left me actually liking Ant-Man, which is no small task. It’s a good read, and you should give it a shot.

Verdict: Take It
