To Take It Or Leave It

New Universe

Welcome to Take It Or Leave It, where each week I pick out new comics and tell you if they’re worth the price and you should take them, or if you should just leave them on the shelf.

This week on Take It Or Leave It, I examine Avengers #7, a table setting piece in Hickman’s overall plan to destroy the Avengers.

Avengers #7

Creators: Hickman – Weaver – Ponsor
Really? Really? A new white event? That’s what all this stuff in Avengers has been all building towards? So we’re gonna bring back the Star Brand? We’re folding New Universe concepts into 616 proper now? What’s next? Is ROM Spaceknight gonna end up being an Avenger? What other failed ideas can we resurrect? Look, at this point, there needs to be someone willing to just tell Hickman no. I think he just keeps throwing weirder and weirder shit in all his books just to see what he can get away with. It’s time he stops. When he did Fantastic Four, I loved it, but now he just seems to be meandering about with no place to go, just pulling bits and pieces from all over the Marvel Universe together (like the Infinity Gauntlet over in New Avengers) just because he can. For now, I can’t say I recommend this arc at all. If this is the starting point, I’m not sure I wanna see the ending.

Verdict: Leave it
