Friday Five – Things That Make You Cry, Volume 1

To Friday Five

Lie down, try not to cry, cry a lot.

Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know me a bit betterwith the help of a Top 5 list! This weeks category: Things that make you cry. . .

I went under the assumption of two ground rules: The “Jurassic Bark” episode of Futurama and The Iron Giant are both assumed, as if you don’t cry during both of those, you are a soulless demon of a person. Also, these days I’m kinda broken in that pretty much any time an orchestra swells, I’ll break down weeping. I used to be a hard emotionless person, but my ex girlfriend taught me how to feel, much like Laurie Laughlin did to Jerry on Seinfeld. Unfortunately, I haven’t been scared straight yet by George, being as I am pretty much George, so I just have to deal with it.

  1. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – I’ve discussed this numerous times, but “I have been, and always shall be, your friend”. Ouch, right in the feels. Every. Damn. Time.
  2.

  3. Transformers: The Movie – Even as an adult, I still get misty during the death of Optimus Prime. “One shall stand. One shall Fall!” Epic stuff.
  4.

  5. Pokemon: The First Movie – When Ash is turned to stone, and Pikachu keeps calling out for him, trying to bring him back to life using Thunderbolt. I’m weeping now just writing this up. Fortunately all the other pokemon did too, as they have magic tears, or something.
  6.

  7. The Office – “Garage Sale” – There are so many excellent choices from this show I could have picked (“Casino Night”; “Weight Loss”; “Niagara”; “Goodbye, Michael”), but I’m gonna go with this. One of, if not the best and most true to character wedding proposals I’ve ever seen.
  8.

  9. How I Met Your Mother – “The Final Page, Part Two (The Robin)” – This one’s kinda personal. I happened to watch this on my DVR on the same day as a girl I used to work with who friendzoned me hard was getting married. The whole theme of letting go really got to me, and it’s just such a beautiful moment.
