Neversoft Merges With Infinity Ward
Hot off of the reveal of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, it is confirmed that Activision will be dropping developer Neversoft’s name and making them a part of Infinity Ward, who are known for being one of the two companies making the Call of Duty installments.
This may come as sad news for many long time gamers, as Neversoft was known for Tony Hawk’s skateboarding series and most of the Guitar Hero games. There doesn’t seem to be any solid word on whether or not this means the permanent death of those games at the moment, but it’s certainly not looking good for their fans. However, from a business standpoint, I must admit that this move makes a lot of sense. Infinity Ward was hit pretty hard when some of their top talent left to form Respawn Entertainment (the guys behind the recent smash hit Titanfall), and their last effort, CoD: Ghosts, wasn’t quite the record breaker that the entries before it were, even after throwing in some strange cameos. Add in the fact that both of the games Neversoft had were “put on hiatus,” and they become an obvious choice to fill in the hole at Infinity Ward.
Personally, I loved most of the games Neversoft was behind, but I’m also among those who got pretty burned out on Call of Duty a while back. What do you think about this merging? Were you hoping for a true return of their games like I was, or are you glad to hear that Call of Duty is getting a bigger team? Let us know!
