Friday Five – Best and Worst of 2013

To Friday Five

2013

Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know me a bit better with the help of a top 5 list. This week I run down the best and worst of 2013!

A lot has happened this past year. Some of it has been good. Some of it has downright sucked. This week’s Friday Five is double sized as I go though both the best and the worst of this past year.

Best

  1. Best WWE Match of the Year – CM Punk vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 – Regardless of who won the Slammy, this match is quite possibly the best I’ve ever seen. I may be biased because I was there.
  2.

  3. Best Media Worth Waiting 50 years for – Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special – Seriously, how awesome was that? It gets better with every viewing.
  4.

  5. Best New TV Show – Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – I know some people think it’s been dragging in the middle, but I love it.
  6.

  7. Best Moment of Squee – Star Trek: Into Darkness – Not the greatest movie overall, but there were several moments of fanservice that made me giddy and caused me to clap and squee like a schoolgirl.
  8.

  9. Best Convention – Comikaze – I did both this and NYCC this year. New York just left me exhausted after like 4 hours. It was so crowded, expansive, and busy, and I couldn’t get near any celebrities. Comikaze was just so much more laid back and accessible, and the most fun I’ve ever had at a con. Highly recommended if at all possible for you to attend. Way better than any Wizard Show.

Worst

  1. Worst Advertising for a New Fall Show – The Goldbergs – This show is amazing, but based on the advertising campaign, I never would have known. Thankfully Patton Oswalt’s voice was there after the end of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to let me know not to change channels.
  2.

  3. Worst Unnecessary Wait – No new Community – NBC is totally in the shitter, on Thursday night especially, but we still have to wait until January 2 for new episodes. But those new episodes look to be be amazing.
  4.

  5. Worst Crossover – Infinity – Look, I love Hickman’s run of Fantastic Four, it got me back into comics. But Infinity is just pure, unadulterated garbage. It may have been a good concept, but the execution was just flawed. Never have I seen a story with so many moving parts, but nothing ever happening. It was downright boring, confusing, and pointless.
  6.

  7. Worst Shameless Money Grab – Star Trek: Into Darkness Blu Ray – In order to get all the extra features, you need to buy the disc (or digital copy) from 4 different retailers. Look, I love Star Trek, but that’s just dumb and I’m not gonna support that. Twice, maybe, but 4 times for same movie, just different extras? No thank you.
  8.

  9. Worst Shameless PR Stunt – Brian dies on Family Guy – Did anyone really care? No, because everyone stopped watching this show like 6 years ago. But the internet went crazy over this, and 3 weeks later, he’s already back. That means the Internet got it’s way, right? No, this was planned all along. And it worked like a charm, so good for them I suppose.
