No, that’s not a typo or a joke; EA has confirmed that the next installment in the Battlefield franchise tells a very different story than we’re used to from the series. Titled Hardline, this installment will see the focus shift over to police (or more specifically, SWAT units) and criminals in an intense, large scale conflict.

Instead of being developed by DICE, the guys who usually make Battlefield, this installment is in the hands of Visceral, mostly known for the Dead Space and Army of Two games. Although very little information about the game is currently available, what we do know is that there will be a full reveal during the E3 expo, and that there will be a single player campaign, along with the multiplayer that Battlefield is known for. We also know that it will be released this year on all current platforms (Xbox 360 and One, PS3 and 4, etc.).

I feel like this is a much needed breath of fresh air for the series, as this kind of theme is something they’ve never done before. Using police gear and tactics in a multiplayer setting against criminals probably looking to play dirty sounds like much more fun than yet another typical war game . . . kind of like a larger scaled, more in depth Counter-Strike, or if Payday had more freedom and competitive modes. As someone who has been burned out on the likes of Battlefield and Call of Duty for years now, I’m actually fairly excited to see what this game really looks like. If you are too, you can check out the game’s site here, even though there’s not much to look at there for the time being.

has been into gaming and just about everything nerdy or out of the norm for as long as he can remember. He likes to keep an open mind about things, but also has a strangely high amount of fun getting into a rant or good debate. . . which is probably why he was recruited to this site in the first place.
