Saturday Six – Muppets
Welcome to the Saturday Six, where each week I let you get to know me a bit better with the help of a list. Any idiot can do a Top 5 list, which is why I kicked it up a notch to a Top 6. This week’s topic: Muppets
Since last week I discussed my love for Sweetums, I figured this week I would expand out and cover the rest of the Muppets. For this list I stuck mostly to The Muppet Show and its follow up productions, so no Fraggles or Sesame Street characters. Those will show up in another list sometime. I should also probably mention that my favorite Muppet film as a kid was The Muppets Take Manhattan, which I watched dozens of times as a kid, so that may have skewed the list a little bit.
- Gonzo – Whether he’s and alien, weirdo, or a whatever, Gonzo truly is the greatest. He always puts his heart 110% into everything he’s doing, even when past experiences would show that might not be the best idea. It just goes to show if you believe in yourself, you can accomplish anything. Even a weirdo like him can find a girlfriend. I don’t even know how having a chicken for a girlfriend would even work between them, but they seem happy together.
- Rizzo – He’s basically the Fonz as a Muppet what with all his saying “Hey” all the time. He’s great as the comic relief sidekick.
- Pepe – He’s pretty much the only new Muppet created after Jim Henson’s death (besides Walter). He kind of stole a lot of Rizzo’s schick, but the quaff of crazy red hair somehow makes it funnier.
- Bunsen and Beaker – Poor Poor Beaker. Not only was he subjected to literally hundreds of experiments gone wrong by Dr. Honeydew (how does he even still have his sciencing license?), It also turns out he’s WWE superstar Sheamus’ cousin. He did get his comeuppance in Letters to Santa, when he used Bunsen’s wish machine to conjure up Petra Němcová, and then wish them both away, so good for him.
- Waldorf and Statler – I love these two because deep down at heart, I’m just a cranky old man who enjoys yelling at other people.
- Lew Zealand – His gimmick is just so dumb, I can’t help but love it. A vaudeville clown who throws fish. That’s it. That’s all he ever does, and it’s never not funny.
