To Take It Or Leave It

ORIGINAL_SIN_ELEMENTS

Welcome to Take It Or Leave It, where each week I pick out new comics and tell you if they’re worth the price and you should take them, or if you should just leave them on the shelf.

Original Sin #2

Original Sin #2

Original Sin keeps on trucking this week, with no signs of falling of the rails. Last year, it was around this point that Infinity just lost all steam with me, but I’m still very intrigued by Original Sin. It’s not all disjointed like Infinity was. Sure, it still has lots of little stories going on, but they are far more interesting and better developed. Plus there are way less of them. The different running threads are all just long enough to be different and interesting, but also reveal just the right amount of information to keep me intrigued as to what happens next. This week we find out who actually has The Watcher’s eyes, and frankly, I’ve never heard of either of them, which leaves the rest of the story wide open, and I can’t wait to see where it’s heading next.

Verdict: Take It

Batman Superman #11

Batman/Superman #11

Doomed also continues this week. I’m sure there’s a ton of Kryptonian backstory going on here that I don’t really understand since I don’t regularly read Superman books. Something with Towers and Ghost Soldiers and whatnot. But if you’re more caught up, you’d probably enjoy this. A bunch of crazy crap goes down in the Phantom Zone, but none of it really seems directly related to Superman and Doomsday. Just Batman being Batman, and it looks like their may not be a cure for whatever Doomsday did. If you’ve been reading the rest of Doomed, take it. It’s pretty OK as a stand alone issue, but it also doesn’t really thrust the Doomed story along either. Still an interesting issue though.

Verdict: Probably Take It

Amazing Spider Man #2

Amazing Spider-Man #2

Dan Slott has been on a real roll with his run on the Spider-Man books, and this one is another great example. Very well written, and just the right amount of funny for a Spider-Man book. It’s only the second issue back for the “real” Spidey after all the craziness of his mind swap with Doc Ock, so there’s a lot of setup still going on. One thing I’m a little disturbed by is how calmly Anna Marie seems to be taking the whole “I fell in love with Doc Ock in your body” thing. I really have grown to like her, and I really don’t want to see her get hurt, so I hope she comes away relatively unscathed. But she is a Spider-Man supporting character, so the odds of that are very low.

Verdict: Take It

Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_3_21

Uncanny X-Men #21

Bwwaahhhh! I hate cliffhanger endings. This whole X-Men vs. S.H.E.I.L.D. story has been really good. A little bit too similar to the #HailHydra stuff in The Winter Soldier and Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D., but good. Mystique has been pulling most of the strings, but it looks like their may be another puppet master at play. Who? Damned if I know, they’re exposed on the last page, and wearing a big ass helmet, so it could be anyone. It’s probably Beast from the future or something, who knows? Guess we’ll just have to wait till next issue to find out. All and all a good romp of a slugfest between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the X-men. That’s always fun.

Verdict: Take It
