CZW Dojo Wars 6

Well, since I don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, every other week I’ll be attending Dojo Wars, their bi-weekly “House Show”. It’s 5 matches for 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? Since the only way to see the show is to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, I’ll let you in on all the details with a full results list, pictures and match breakdown.

This was definitely the most fun of all the Dojo Wars yet. No surprise sixth match this week, but we got an even better surprise. A title changing hands!

Results:

  • Frankie Pikard defeated Conor Claxton
  • DJ Hyde defeated Ben Ortiz
  • Qefka the Quiet defeated Preacher Finneus James and “Futuristic Fernando” in a three way dance
  • Sozio, Eric Corvis, and Trooper Audubon defeated Nate Carter, Andrew McCall, and Brittany Blake in a 2 out of 3 falls intergender 6 person tag team match
  • Joe Gacy defeated Shane Strickland for the CZW Wired Television Championship

Sensing a pattern yet? Yet again, the opening bout was between Conor Claxton and Frankie Pikard. While always short, their matches keep getting better. There was an armbar attempt this week from Claxton, which Pikard managed to roll through and reverse into a Triangle Choke Hold, but Claxton managed to get his foot on the ropes to force a break. After the break, Pikard hulked up, got in a massive chomp, then grabbed Claxton’s feet while he was down, and flipped over him for the bridge to score the pinfall.

After that came Ben Ortiz, some kind of Tron guy, against DJ Hyde. This one was pretty much a foregone conclusion from the start that Ortiz had no chance, but it was still a fun match. They started with some general name calling and bickering, and then they each spit on one another. After trading a bunch of running shoulder blocks, DJ managed to get Ortiz out of the ring. After DJ rolled him back in, while Ortiz was recovering in the middle of the ring, DJ him him with a running knee, then followed it up with a spear. Ortiz then tried to hit a splash from the top turnbuckle, but DJ rolled out of the way and then hit him with a clothesline which kept him down for the count.

Next was a three way dance featuring Qefka the Quiet, Preacher Finneus James, and “Futuristic Fernando” (Devious Diego at the last Dojo Wars, his gimmick being he changes it every week). The match was slow to start, but once it picked up steam it was awesome. Fernando kept to himself at the beginning while Qefka and Finneus went at it for a bit. Finneus had trouble staying in the ring, and kept getting knocked off the apron. The first time Qefka had Fernando in a headlock and used his head as a battering ram to knock Finneus off, and then he gave Fernando a drop toe hold, which caused Fernando to headbutt Finneus right in the balls. Qefka then got beat up a bit, with the other two combatants taking turns putting moves on him. Both Fernando and Finneus ended up outside the ring, and Qefka came flying through the ropes, hitting them both. All three men each retreated to a separate corner, and then they all came running at each other, knocking each other out. The finish here then got a little botched by the ref, as Qefka pinned Fernando, but the ref barely hit the mat for the third count and no one heard it, so then Qefka climbed the turnbuckle and used the Tarzan Swing for a definitive 1-2-3.

After that was intermission. This week there were a bunch of first timer families with kids, so Head Trainer and former Heavyweight Champion Drew Gulak invited a bunch into the ring to mess around. He tried to get them to do their best war cries and run the ropes, but they were all kinda shy. He then tried to get them to have a tag team match, but they were still all too shy to play with new kids they hadn’t met, but it turned out “the ref’s a bad guy!”, so Gulak gave him a bodyslam, and then all the kids piled on top of him for the pin. It was a cute way to pass the time, and a big thrill for the kids to get to spend some time playing in the ring.

Intermission

When intermission was over, there was a 6 person intergender 2 out of 3 Falls tag match, featuring Sozio, Eric Corvis, and Trooper Audubon against the team of Nate Carter, Dave McCall, and Brittany Blake. To start the face team spent a good five minutes just whipping Trooper, tagging in and out repeatedly and kicking him in the back. This was of course reciprocated later with The Front beating the holy hell out of Brittany, because of course they did, she’s a tiny girl. Carter got the hot tag and got Corvis in a Fisherman’s Suplex, but he got to the ropes to force a break and tagged in Sozio while Carter was still recovering. Carter didn’t see the tag, and got kicked by Sozio in the back of the head and went down for the first fall. Carter and McCall managed to get Corvis up for a 3D, and then tagged in Brittany, who stomped him chest from the top rope for the second fall, and then McCall took a weird looking snap mare type thing, almost like a Backwards White Noise or Inverted Powerslam, to give the win to The Front.

The main event of the evening was a rematch from last time, Joe Gacy vs Shane Strickland, but this time it was for the CZW Wired TV Championship. Again I will protest that I don’t know how a Television Championship can be won or lost at an untelevised house show, but I will let it slide due to the epicness of the match. The match immediately started with a big spot, with Strickland going for a Superkick, but Gacy caught his foot and used his momentum to flip him over. Gacy then tried for a clothesline, but Strickland ducked back, all the way onto his back on the mat, then jumped up, and slapped the taste right out of Gacy’s mouth. Strickland then hit another big spot by running and diving over the ropes backwards like a pole vaulter, back flipping right on top of Gacy. The finish was a little clumsy, as Gacy went to powerbomb Strickland, and Strickland attempted to roll through for the crucifix, but didn’t land it cleanly, and then Gacy countered that into a different crucifix, but in the end it looked like they were just crawling around. But it doesn’t matter how it looks, it matters whose shoulders get counted down for the three, and this was a very well deserved title win for Joe Gacy. I highly recommend watching it when it finally makes it way to Youtube in like two months.
