To Friday Five, Movies

Desert-Island
Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week I help you get to know us a little better with the help of a top 5 list. This week’s category: Desert Island Movies.

This week’s topic comes to us straight from an episode of The Office, the classic “The Fire”. Imagine that for whatever reason you end up trapped on a desert island. All you have with you is a solar powered DVD player. What five DVD’s do you have with you? To quote Jim in the episode “The game is Desert Island Movies, not guilty pleasure movies. Desert Island Movies are the movies you’re going to watch for the rest of your life! Forever!”. It’s not quite the same as top 5 movies. These would be the 5 movies you will watch over and over until the end of time and still love, as they will be the only things to entertain you in your desolate isolation alone on an island until you die from exposure. There is a very subtle difference.

I tried to get a little bit of everything in my selections, a little action, a little romance, a little comedy, a few sexy ladies, pretty much everything to cover all your bases for whatever mood you’re in.

  1. Rad – The greatest BMX bike movie the 80’s ever made (Not that that is saying much). Even though I know it word for word, I never get tired of it. And it’s got a pre Full House Laurie Laughlin, who looks pretty awesome in a one piece spandex bike suit. And great 80’s music to boot!
  2.

  3. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Directors Cut) – Nearly 3 hours of the greatest action movie ever.
  4.

  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – I love movies that challenge me to think, and with it’s non-linear storytelling, you pick up something new on each viewing.
  6.

  7. Lost In Translation – A young Scarlett Johansson AND Bill Fucking Murray experiencing existential ennui in Japan. What’s not to love?
  8.

  9. Mallrats – The best of the View Askewverse movies, in my opinion, and definitely the funniest of the bunch. I could have theoretically made my whole list from those movies, but if I had to pick one of the six of them, it would be Mallrats.

Honorable mentions to The Replacements, The Breakfast Club, The Avengers, Ferris Bueller and Clerks II, all of which just barely didn’t make the Top 5.
