Killing Floor 2 Is Official, Teaser Trailer and First Screens Revealed
Over the weekend, Tripwire Interactive surprised everyone by revealing a sequel to their cooperative zombie slaughtering hit, Killing Floor, and it’s sounding very promising so far. The story of Killing Floor 2 is said to take place in Europe, only a month after the events of the original. You and up to five others are tasked with fighting the horrors that Horzine Biotech created, while of course using a wide variety of weapons to do so. In other words, blah blah blah, pick a weapon and murder everything that looks creepy and moves.
Among the usual promises of new guns & enemies, Tripwire are also taking pride in the game’s new blood & gore system. They want to make every wound, splatter, and severed limb look unique. Tearing your enemies apart will now be taken in a whole new and literal sense, as it’s possible to expose all of their lovely organ systems in a way meant to be believable for whatever you used to do it. The catch to this? They can do the same to you too, so those of you who like having vital organs in the right places may want to tread carefully.
After the success of the original Killing Floor – selling approximately 2.5 million copies as of this writing – the folks at Tripwire were more than happy to finally make this into a full game of its own, with enough of a budget to do more of what they wanted. Everything has received the motion capture treatment this time around, with the intent to make weapons and movement all feel true to life. . . or at least what one would imagine freaks like those would be like if they existed. In their words, they want this game and everything in it to be “as sick as possible,” and I’d say it looks like they’re doing a fine job of that.
Killing Floor 2 is set to release on PC, Linux and Mac platforms (sorry console fans, no word on a release for anything else yet.) Although there’s no release date for the time being, we can expect it on Steam’s “Early Access” program “sooner than we expect.” If that’s not enough of a tease, enjoy the trailer below.
