Dojo Wars VIII

Well, since I don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, every other week I’ll be attending Dojo Wars, their bi-weekly “House Show”. It’s 5 matches for 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? Since the only way to see the show is to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, I’ll let you in on all the details with a full results list, pictures and match breakdown.

This week was the. . . oddest. . . week yet at Dojo Wars. The timing seemed way off, with the first two matches combined being only 8 minutes, and an extended 20 minute intermission. That meant the next two matches drug out far longer than they should have, but the main event was still pretty exciting.

Results:

  • Frankie Pikard defeated Conor Claxton
  • Brittany Blake defeated Brooke Danielle
  • Andrew Wolf and Chuck Mambo defeated Nate Carter and Dave McCall
  • Preacher Finneus James defeated Kit Osbourne
  • Qefka the Quiet, Joe Gacy, and Kory Kastle defeated Trooper Audubon, Alexander James, and “Happenin’ Harry”

Well, after a week off, it was time to revisit the Frankie Pikard/Conor Claxton rivalry. With the series tied at 3-3, hopefully this will see an end to it, but I doubt it. Claxton was pretty aggressive out of the blocks, headbutting Pikard multiple times. After trading a few headbutts back and forth, Pikard landed a big right hand, then blocked a kick into a leglock, rather than an armbar like they both usually do. Pikard picked up the win with a flip over bridge.

Next was a female singles match between Brittany Blake and Brooke Danielle. It’s nice to finally see the women carrying a match by themselves without being part of an intergender tag, but it was far too short. It was basically a few lariats into the ropes, one sidewalk slam from Danielle, then Blake landed Stratusfaction for the win over Danielle, just like she did in the tag match last time around.

After that came Nate Carter and Dave McCall vs Andrew Wolf and Chuck Mambo. This match was pretty slow, as they had a lot of time to kill, so there was a lot of primping and preening. The match started with Carter and McCall doing Kung Fu style stretches and then doing Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine who was in first to kill time. Mambo came out eating a banana and had one of the audience members hold it during the match. I’m quite upset this didn’t lead to anything, as this seemed like the perfect setup for some classic banana peel comedy, but nothing came of it. Once they finally got around to the wrestling, it was pretty good. Mambo at one point was literally standing on McCall’s back, riding him like a surfboard, because of course he was. Carter brought out the Junk Yard Dog headbutts, and then Mambo dropkicked both his opponents in quick succession in the corner. Wolf introduced their new tag team finisher, the “Fireblast”, where he does a Sidewalk Slam, then Mambo dropped a Macho Man elbow from the top rope. Mambo and Wolf picked up the win after a double team.

After an extended intermission, we came back to Kit Osbourne vs Preacher Finneus James. This match went a full twenty minutes, but that was about 12 minutes too long for the two of them. The match really drug down in the middle, and was full of rest holds as they both tried to keep from getting gassed. Both participants are excellent competitors, but they just didn’t have any chemistry together tonight, and frankly, it got pretty boring before the finally flurry of offense. This match too had a lot of preening from Finneus, with him belittling the audience. Finneus punted Osbourne in the head right in the center of the ring, then jumped off the turnbuckles and caught Osbourne in a DDT for the win.

The main event was a six man elimination tag between Team “Mime Over Matter”, Qefka the Quiet, Joe Gacy, and Kory Kastle against the team of Trooper Audubon, Alexander James, and “Happenin’ Harry”. The big spot of the match saw Qefka get both Harry and Audubon in Mandible Claws, and then dropkicking James as he tried to rush in to assist. The most exciting part of the match wasn’t really part of the match, but Brooke Danielle screaming at the top of her lungs from the back of the room. Her excitement really helped get the whole match over.

  • Trooper Audubon eliminated by Kory Kastle after submitting to a Boston Crab
  • Kory Kastle eliminated by “Happenin’ Harry” with a Schoolboy Pin after an unseen tag
  • “Happenin’ Harry” eliminated by Qefka the Quiet after submitting to Mime Time
  • Alexander James eliminated by Joe Gacy after a Tornado Clothesline

Winners: Qefka the Quiet and Joe Gacy
