DojoWarsWeeklySlide

Well, since I don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, every week I’ll be attending Dojo Wars, their weekly “House Show”. It’s at least 5 matches for only 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? Because the only way to see the show is to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, I’ll let you in on all the details with a full results list, pictures and match breakdown.

Results:

  • Joey Janela defeated Mike Del
  • Jasmine Naveen defeated Josh Adams
  • Brittany Blake defeated Penelope Ford
  • Frankie Pikard defeated Curt Robinson
  • Rex Lawless defeated Trooper Audubon
  • Nate Carter and Dave McCall defeated George Gatton and Dan O’Hare
  • Joe Gacy defeated Conor Claxton

Joey Janela vs. Mike Del

Newcomer Mike Del put on a pretty good show for himself in his first time in the Dojo. He faked an injury early on, then gave Janela a fingerpoke to the eye while the ref wasn’t looking. While Janela was hunched over recovering, Del jumped up on his back, stood there for a second, then dropped an elbow right onto Janela’s spine. Del followed that up with a massive clothesline that sent Janela spinning around in a corkscrew. Janela finally got some offense in, getting Del in a Figure Four, but Del managed to flip him over, reversing the pressure. Del went up to the top rope for a Senton attempt, but Janela moved out of the way and Del landed flat on his back. Janela then got the pinfall after a Tornado Clothesline.

Winner: Joey Janela
Bell Time: 13:45

Josh Adams vs. Jasmine Naveen

It’s only Jasmine’s third match, so the bar shouldn’t be incredibly high, but her two prior matches were better. That’s not to say anything was particularly bad with this one, it was perfectly serviceable, but it didn’t shine. While the match was shorter that her other bouts, she was asked to carry more of her own weight in this one, and at times it looked like she was gassed and struggling, but she pulled through. Adams had most of the power moves, including a Pumphandle Backbreaker and a World’s Strongest Slam (complete with a shout of “That’s what I do!”). Though it may have been a little sloppy, eventually Jasmine picked up the win after a DDT.

Winner: Jasmine Naveen
Bell Time: 6:06

Penelope Ford vs. Brittany Blake

I was pretty excited about this match, as I’m big a big fan of both of them. It’s surprising that considering they are the star female students of the Dojo, they have only faced off against each other once in an ten person tag match. I’m not sure what exactly happened, but this match didn’t live up to it’s potential. Penelope has only been in one other singles match, mostly being used in tag teams, so I think she got a little lost in the middle of the match without a teammate to lean on. Brittany managed to carry her though some rough spots and a botch or two. The match started with a series of shoulder blocks, with Penelope trying to use her relative size advantage, but Brittany refused to go down. On the fourth attempt, Brittany dodged and hit an Enziguri. It looks as if Brittany is trying to become a bit of a submission specialist, again busting out the Tequila Sunrise, as well as a Lotus Lock and a Figure Four Headlock. Penelope had everyone fooled, setting up for her Handspring Elbow, and instead hitting a Spear. Brittany scored the pinfall after rolling through a Sunset Flip and using an inverted roll up, bridging with her legs instead of a standard Schoolgirl type pin.

Winner: Brittany Blake
Bell Time: 7:52

Frankie Pikard vs Curt Robinson

This was pretty much a hard hitting ground and pound affair. They each spent most of the match focused on their opponent’s legs. Frankie got Curt up in a nasty leglock then wrenched him back until he was standing on his head. Curt got Frankie tied up in the ropes, then hit him with a dropkick, followed by a German Suplex. Frankie picked up the win when he forced Curt to tap to a Leglock.

Winner: Frankie Pikard
Bell Time: 8:03

Trooper Audubon vs. Rex Lawless

This was the third entry in the Dojo Wars Grand Prix Trial Series Jack Tunney Memorial Invitational Open Challenge series issued by Trooper, and this week he bit off more than he could chew. This quickly became a squash match, with Lawless using his size and power to push Trooper around, including a suplex into the ring from the apron and several slams. After just a few short minutes, Lawless finished strong with a Chokeslam-Sitout Powerbomb combo for the pinfall.

Winner: Rex Lawless
Bell Time: 4:52

George Gatton and Dan o’Hare vs Nate Carter and Dave McCall

This was a bit of a grudge match for Gatton, after he was almost knocked out in his win over McCall and Carter two weeks ago. The Dub Boys spent most of the match focused on Gatton, throwing him around and stomping him down. He was able to Hulk up, and deliver a slew of chops to McCall, but it was not enough. Gatton was unable to avenge himself, as McCall hit him with a jumping knee to the face for victory. At least no one got a concussion, so that’s a plus.

Winner: Nate Carter and Dave McCall
Bell Time: 8:46

Conor Claxton vs. Joe Gacy

Dojo Wars took a cue from WWE this week, and set up their own non title Champion vs Champion match with Conor Claxton and his Medal of Honor up against Joe Gacy and the Wired Television Title. This was a very stiff hard hitting affair. Each opponent had the other well scouted, and was able to avoid or counter most of their opponents big moves. Gacy went for the Rings of Saturn, but couldn’t keep it locked in. Meanwhile, Conor made several attempts at the Armbar that failed to materialize. After a long back and forth battle, Gacy picked up the win by rolling through after a German Suplex and hitting one of his own.

Winner: Joe Gacy
Bell Time: 19:20
