It’s been four long months, but the day we’ve been waiting for is nearly here. Community is finally returning to the “We (Peacock) Comedy” channel, NBC, this Thursday at 8/7 Central. As much as it pains me to say, this will most likely be the last season, what with creator Dan Harmon being forced out by the studio, Chevy Chase leaving two episodes before the end of the season (fortunately the producers planned ahead and taped the final episode out of order, so he’ll still be in it, wrapping up his storyline), and head writer Megan Ganz (voice of such episodes as “Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking”, “Documentary Filmmaking: Redux”, “Basic Lupine Urology”, and the season four finale, “Advanced Introduction to Finality”) leaving to take a job at Modern Family.

But just maybe we’ll get our Six Seasons and a Movie (after all, as Jeff points out, most community college students attend school for an average of six years). Crazier things have happened over at NBC. Now that 30 Rock is wrapped up and The Office is ending this year, Community is the second strongest comedy left on the network, behind Parks and Rec of course. NBC also doesn’t have a great track record developing new shows. Animal Practice was a spectacular failure, even though it had Annie’s Boobs and all the exposure afforded to it during the Winter Olympics. Up All Night is currently on its third retooling. Remember Are You There Chelsea? You’re probably the only one. Or what about 100 Questions or Perfect Couples? All comedies that died quick painless deaths after only a few episodes. Or what about The Paul Reiser Show or Do No Harm, the lowest rated sitcom and drama premieres respectfully for a show premiering during the regular season, in the history of television.

So what I’m saying is it could be entirely possible that NBC simply can’t find anything better to replace it with, and decides to keep it around for a while. Hell, they haven’t cancelled Whitney yet, and that’s god awful. So there remains hope. For now, check out the epic trailer below for Season four, which starts with a Hunger Games inspired spoof, and then heads off to episodes where we’ll meet Jeff’s dad (played by James Brolin) and Abed heads off to an Inspector Spacetime convention to meet his internet friend (Little Britain’s Matt Lucas). Should be a blast, so enjoy it while you can. Pop Pop!

And as an extra little bonus, here’s an animated gif of Alison Brie posing for a photoshoot.
