CZW’s Dojo Wars II Results
Well, since I didn’t have anything to do, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, I figured I’d go check out their new bi-weekly show, Dojo Wars. It’s 5 matches for 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? I thought since the only way to see the show was to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, there may be some interest. Read on after the jump for a full results lists and pictures.
Results:
- Conor Claxton defeated Frankie Pickard
- Nate Carter & David McCall defeated Alexander James & Baja Benjamin
- Andrew Wolf defeated “Mavlicia Fox”
- DJ Hyde & Kimber Lee defeated David Starr & Brittany Blake
- Qefka the Quiet defeated Joe Gacey
If when I say “wrestling academy”, you think of the NXT Performance Center, for this you are sorely mistaken. This was a 30’x50′ warehouse in an office park just off the highway with one ring in the corner and 30 folding chairs setup. That isn’t to say anything bad of it, but it certainly made for a very intimate show. The whole point of these Dojo Wars shows is it’s a chance for the students of the CZW Wrestling Academy to work in front of a live audience with some of the more seasoned guys on the roster.
The first match of the night was Conor Claxton vs. Frankie Pickard. This was a pretty short match, just a few minutes to warm up the crowd. Nothing really stood out to me here. Claxton won the match with a Cross Armbar.

After that came a promo from CZW Owner DJ Hyde on Brittany Blake. Apparently at the last Dojo Wars, Blake pinned Hyde in a 6 person Intergender tag match. He called it a fluke and issued an open challenge for her to do it again, with a tag member of her choice for later in the night.

Next was Nate Carter & David McCall vs. Alexander James & Baja Benjamin. Apparently James’ gimmick is something of a ladies man, and he started the match by going out in the audience and trying to get the lone female in attendence to give him a neck rub, but since you cant see who’s giving you a neck rub, she tricked him, and actually it was the guy sitting next to her that did it. The two teams went back and forth a bit, and then Carter made his way over to the same female to try the same thing, and she actually did it this time. The match ended with a double team from Carter & McCall with a spining blade kick for the pin.

Up next was a bit of a weird contest, Andrew Wolf vs. “Mavlicia Fox”. “Mavlicia” being a guy in a skirt and wearing a terrible weave headband, while doing his best impression of Alicia Fox’s new “unstable” character, running around yelling at everyone and calling them losers. Like most real Alicia Fox matches, it was over quickly and ended with a schoolboy pin.

After a short intermission, we were back with the results of the open challenge. DJ Hyde picked Kimber Lee as his partner, while Brittany Blake chose one half of the CZW Tag Team Champions, David Starr. This was definitely the most entertaining match of the night, and had a few more bigger spots. Brittany Blake has that whole “AJ Lee tiny nerd girl” gimmick down, including snapping on a Black Widow to DJ Hyde at one point. After that they both tagged out. Apparently Starr’s gimmick is somewhat like Val Venus, in that all the ladies wanna do him. When they got in the ring, before locking up he did a crotch chop to “show off the goods”, and Lee was transfixed. They then played Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” over the PA, and started to dance, when Hyde stormed in to break it up. Lee then yelled at him for ruining her attempt at “making sex”. Blake managed to get a pretty wicked looking spinning tornado DDT on Hyde. After that they both tagged out, Starr and Lee ended up back in the ring, exchanging flurries of Ric Flair style chops back and forth. Eventually it ended with Hyde pinning Starr with Lee charging across the ring preventing Blake from breaking up the pin.

The final match of the night was a little odd, but it did feature a Chikara wrestler, so that’s to be expected. The match was Qefka the Quiet vs. Joe Gacey. Qefka’s gimmick is that he’s a mime, so he doesn’t talk or say anything. This permeated out into the crowd, with everyone ssshhhhing each other. It was eerily quiet, and it was a little disconcerting. That match dragged on a bit even for a comedy match. A lot of it was just Qefka running around (or under) the ring with Gacey chasing him around. Or it had Qefka tickling Gacey, or putting his fingers in his butt. Gacey got upset at that and grabbed a chair and threw it into a wall, leaving a pretty sizable dent in it. At one point Qefka mimed that he was trapped in an invisible box, then Gacey tried to ram through, but Qefka sidestepped him and Gacey ended up smacking into the post. Qefka taunted Gacey by dancing around, and they played “Let’s Get It On” again, but Gacey wasn’t having any of it. There were a few more high flying moves here than the other matches, and Gacey gave Qefka a pretty big suplex in the middle of the ring after holding him upright for like 20 seconds. After giving him a Mandible Claw (remember, his fingers had previously been in Gacey’s butt), Qefka snapped on Mime Time, then rolled it over into a crucifix pin for the win.

Final thoughts? Overall, it was a fun time, especially for only $5. Was the wrestling WWE (or even NXT) caliper? No, not in the least. Most of the matches were mat and catch wrestling, with lots of lariats and grappling. There were practically no bumps all night, except for maybe 3 DDTs and a bodyslam or suplex or 2. But that’s all to be expected. This wasn’t a “public” show per say, with a big crowd or a TV audience. It was 30 guys in a room, and many of the wrestlers are pretty green, so they shouldn’t be going for big moves yet. Even though they are green, it was still a fun and entertaining night, and there was only maybe two botches of kicks that didn’t land. While I couldn’t hear them, I could see a few of them calling their spots, but only because I was actively looking for it, and was 8 feet away from them. Would I do it again, definitely. These events are biweekly, and if people like them, I could make these reports a regular column. If you wanna hear more, let me know in the comments.
