CZW Dojo Wars 15

Well, since I don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights, and the CZW Academy is only 20 minutes from my house, every other week I’ll be attending Dojo Wars, their bi-weekly “House Show”. It’s 5 matches for 5 bucks, how can you go wrong with that? Since the only way to see the show is to be there, and only a very limited number of people can fit in the place, I’ll let you in on all the details with a full results list, pictures and match breakdown.

There were a ton of people who came out this week for Dojo Wars. Unfortunately they were all other wrestlers. That’s because this week was the first week of the new Dojo Wars format. Now it is an actual Dojo War, where students from two different wrestling schools face off throughout the night. I like the new format, as it lends itself to more unpredictability and an influx of new talent we haven’t seen before, plus less repetition in matchmaking, so hopefully no more best-of-9 match series. This week, the home team lead by trainer Drew Gulak faced off against the students from Biff Busick’s training academy.

Joe Gacy vs TJ Marconi

The first contest of the night was a quick warm up match featuring Joe Gacy and TJ Marconi. Marconi is basically Diesel if his pants had blue tassels. Gacy was in control for pretty much all of the match, and spent the majority of his time concentrating on Marconi’s left knee, including a variety of submission attempts. After wearing Marconi down, Gacy won after a lionsault.

Winner: Joe Gacy
Bell Time: 5:39

Eric Corvis and Myke Quest vs Nate Carter and Dave McCall

Up next was a tag match between the Garden State Gods, Eric Corvis and Myke Quest, and the team of Nate Carter and Dave McCall. Before the match got started, during with introductions, Carter and McCall had themselves introduced as the second best tag team of all time (behind Harlem Heat, naturally). The Garden State Gods took offense to that, and countered that there were many better teams than Harlem Heat. When the match finally got under way, Quest and McCall started with a Feats of Strength, with McCall forcing Quest down onto his back. The match went back and forth, with each team taking turns tagging in and out and everyone beating on everyone else. The big ending sequence saw McCall hit the Scissor Kick on Corvis, but then getting stomped in the back from the top rope by Quest. That wasn’t the end though, as Carter and McCall managed to then put the match away with a 3D on Quest for the victory.

Winner: Nate Carter and Dave McCall

Curt Robinson, Conor Claxton, and Frankie Pikard vs Brandon Bell, Tim Lobo, and Ace Romero

After that was the first of the Trial series matches, pitting the CZW Dojo up against Biff Busick’s training academy. I don’t know if it was because they allowed one of Biff’s guys to referee, but this match was a bit of a mess. He lost control of the match early and often, with many instances of 2 and 3 on ones and people not leaving the ring after tags, or simply not tagging at all. Bell called out Claxton for his Medal of Valor, saying he’d love to take it from him. Claxton however was having none of it, and clamped him in an armbar that Bell had trouble getting out of. Both Pikard and Robinson used some nasty looking leg submissions to weaken their foes, but it was for naught. I honestly missed the ending sequence as there was so much action going on at once. Everyone ended up in the ring at the same time, and then everyone ended up fighting outside the ring right in front of me, but then apparently Ace and Pikard were the legal men back in the ring, and somehow Ace pinned Pikard. I was quite surprised at the booking on this, that the CZW crew didn’t come off as totally dominant. This should make the rest of the Trials matches more interesting, as they set a precedent that the finishes are not a forgone conclusion.

Winner: Brandon Bell, Tim Lobo, and Ace Romero

Stockade vs Quivering Quincy

Old What’s His Name has the dumbest gimmick ever, but for some reason it’s infectious. I was anxious to see what he’s be this week for the letter “Q” and was not disappointed. Even though he was kept warm from Stockade’s body heat, Quincy didn’t stand much of chance here. He put up a valiant effort “quivering up” several times by shaking the ropes or holding himself like he was trying to stay warm, but the size differential here was just too much. Stockade put the match away with a leg drop.

Winner: Stockade
Bell Time: 7:42

Brooke Danielle, Trooper Audubon, Joey Janela, and Rex Lawless vs Andrew Wolf, Brittany Blake, Latin Dragon, and Sugar Dunkerton

The main event of the evening was a big 8 person tag match. Brooke and Brittany started with a big stare down, and then as per usual, Brittany got beat down for quite a while. Dunkerton finally got the tag and went after Lawless, trying to hip toss him, but the big man refused to go down. So then Dunkerton tagged it Brittany, picked her up, and used her as a battering ram to knock Lawless down, and then dropped her right on top of him. For some reason, Trooper at one point tried to land a moonsault from the top turnbuckle. It went about as you would expect, with almost no rotation and him missing everyone. Wolf and Janela ended up in the ring together, with Wolf on a tear and looking for revenge from last Dojo Wars, where Janela threw him into the wall. He shouted out that “he’s not having sex tonight” and then hit Janella with a series of Atomic Drops right to the balls. Janela managed to roll out and tag in Brooke, who taunted Wolf that he wouldn’t hit a girl. In fact he would, and dropped her with a Rock Bottom, followed up by a People’s Elbow. Things got dicey her for a bit, as then Lawless and Janella tried a similar drop move to what Dunkerton and Brittany had done, but it basically came out with Janela landing like a dart right on Wolf’s chest. He immediately threw up the “X”, and I thought he may have broken his sternum. He must have just have had the wind knocked out of him, because just a few minutes later he was back in the match, and threw Janela over the ropes and into the wall hard, with Janela landing on the crashpad. During the commotion of everyone looking after Janela, Lawless hit Wolf with a Sitout Powerbomb. Janella was then able to roll of the mat back into the ring and cover Wolf for the pin.

Winner: Brooke Danielle, Trooper Audubon, Joey Janela, and Rex Lawless

Post Match

That was not the end though. With Wolf still down, Janela and his whole team started beating him down, and Lawless got a chair, which Janela then took to Wolf’s throat, trying to choke him out. After a minute or two of this, Joe Gacy, Conor Claxton, Frankie Pikard, Nate Carter and Dave McCall all came running in the from back to make the save. Janela threw down a challenge to Gacy, who was ready to go right then and there, but Janela just scoured off to the back with the rest of his cronies without a single punch being thrown.

Forgive me if I goof on some names and spellings, I try to research them as best I can, but many of the participants at these shows are new wrestlers so there isn’t anything online about them yet and I have to go by what I think I hear the announcer say.
