Friday Five – Comic Artists
Comic Books, Friday Five on June 29, 2012 at 1:38 pm by JohnScott
Great writing is only half the story when it comes to comics. If I just wanted something to read I have plenty of books. No, the great thing about comics is all the visuals. While a bad artist can take a great story and make it unreadable, a good artist can elevate a bad story to new heights with creative and evocative artwork.

I think it’s become obvious that Hollywood these days is pretty much out of ideas. It’s why we end up with so many shitty sequels to movies no one asked for sequels for. I don’t think anyone was ever like “You know, I really wanna know how those two guys meet in that movie that’s now 10 years old”, yet we got Dumb and Dumberer: How Harry Met Lloyd. While many sequels are quick cash ins (see Aladdin IV: Jafar May Need Glasses), many times the sequel ends up being far superior to original film.

We’re just a month away from the last of the Christopher Nolan Batman Movies, The Dark Knight Rises. I’m very excited for it, having already bought my tickets to see it in IMAX. But now that we’ve seen this new Nokia exclusive trailer below, I’m somehow even more excited, as if that were possible! Check it out, and get practicing on your Batman voice!

Friday Five – Most Disappointing Sequels
Friday Five on June 15, 2012 at 3:12 pm by JohnScott
Sometimes a sequel can be much better that the film it was spawned from. We’ll get to those later. But this week I examine those films that just suck in comparison to those that came before them, and in fact can make those first movies even worse just by existing.

In an effort to try to reclaim some market share over the summer, and keeping in line with their new broader menu of smoothies and other things that aren’t entirely terrible for you, Burger King will be adding some new limited time items to its menu this week. They are playing up on the whole “flame broiled” thing, and going with a summer cookout type theme for these items, which includes a Memphis Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich, Carolina or Texas BBQ Whopper (the difference between them I don’t know, I assume different style sauce) and Sweet Potato fries. But while those sound intriguing from a place that historically focused on burgers, the one the really interests me is the new Bacon Sundae. You read that right. BACON SUNDAE.
