Forza Horizon 2 Set for Xbox This Fall
The sequel to 2012’s spinoff Forza Horizon is set for release this year on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, as announced earlier today. Horizon 2 is being developed by two separate teams; Playground Games is working on the Xbox One version using Forza 5‘s graphics, while Sumo Digital is working on the 360 version, using the original Horizon as their baseline.
The title is said to include “hundreds of cars” such as the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán, and will be the first in the Forza series to feature a weather system. Forza 5‘s “Drivatar” system, which studies how each player races in order to make the AI in their friends’ singleplayer games act similarly, is also returning for this sequel. The story will be focused on a large music festival in Southern Europe acting as the center for all of the game’s activities.
Whether or not the “hundreds of cars” mentioned above will all be on the game to begin with wasn’t quite specified, but Forza is known for releasing a ton of additional content post-release, and it’s a safe bet that this one will not be an exception. The first Horizon was either loved for the open world feeling and diversity, or hated because of the mechanics and physics being a bit less realistic than the main installments, so it should be interesting to see how this one plays out and is received by fans. Although I haven’t personally played Forza 5 for myself yet, the Drivatar system sounds like one of the more intriguing features to be added to a simulation styled racing game lately, so it’s good to see that they’re sticking with it.
