Saturday Six – Pop Culture Cats

I’m kind of doing the animal hierarchy backwards, since last week was all about dogs, and this week has gone to the cats. Will next week be about mice? It’s a definite possibility.

Saturday Six – Pop Culture Dogs

So the other day I caught one of those maudlin Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercials that everyone hates seeing because they are just so depressing. No one wants to see that shit, because really, who doesn’t love dogs? No one, that’s who. That’s an awfully depressing way to start an article. But it got me to thinking about all the cool dogs in pop culture that everyone loves.

Saturday Six – Best Trios

This weekend I’ll be attending three days of 3 on 3 tag team wrestling at Chikara’s King of Trios. That’s a whole lot of threes, so I figured I’d run down a list of some of my favorite three man teams that weren’t all entirely wrestling related.

Saturday Six – 33

So today is my 33rd birthday. I don’t plan anything special for it, besides sleeping late and watching wrestling all day. Anything special, that is, beside this list things with the number 33.

Saturday Six – Comedy Specials / Albums

I was never really into Joan Rivers. I guess I’m just too young. I vaguely remember her failed show on Fox, but I certainly was never allowed up late enough to see her in her prime on Carson. I’d see her in her most recent special, or her guest spot on Louie, or Fashion Police after I forget to change the channel when The Soup was over, and always found her funny. But to me, she was always the lady that worked with Miss Piggy at the perfume counter in The Muppets Take Manhattan.

So while she may be gone now, it made me reflect on the other people I find funny. I like to think I’m at least a little bit humorous. So this week, I run down the albums or specials that influenced my own sense of humor the most and that I find the most funny.

Death is unavoidable. But this past week a totally unexpected tragedy occurred with the untimely passing of Robin Williams. I don’t think there was a person alive who had anything but good things to say about him. Robin Williams was just the latest, but will not be the last. This last year also saw the departure of some other heavy hitters. Jim “Ultimate Warrior” Helwig giving what was ultimately his own eulogy on Monday Night Raw was extremely emotional. We will never get an true Ghostbusters 3 without Harold Ramis.

Being 33, I’m of the age that many of the people I looked up to as a child will soon be shuffling off the mortal coil. It’s inevitable. While, as Dr. McCoy says we all have to “turn death into a fighting chance for life”, that still won’t stop me from being devastated when we finally lose those celebrities below.

Saturday Six – Super Heavyweight Wrestlers

So all this month, CZW is holding open tryouts to join their wrestling school. In all honesty, I would love nothing more than to do that, but there are several issues with that. First, my regular gig is just too stable to walk away from. But more importantly, I am a fat old man. I’m 33 and I get winded carrying my groceries in from my car. Sure, Bret Hart became champ at 35, but he’d been wrestling his whole life. The last time I did sports was a 2 month period my junior year of high school where I trained for crew, but we never actually went out on the water. If I lost my job tomorrow, and could spend six months laser focused and pull a Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy, I’d have a chance. But as it is, I’m slightly more coordinated than The Shockmaster.

Saturday Six – Shows missing from WWE Network

To Saturday Six, Wrestling

If you’re a wrestling fan, WWE Network is a great bargain and full of great original content. There’s just one problem. I’ve watched all the original content, and most of the pay per views, leaving me with little I haven’t seen already. WWE has in its library almost all the recorded video of the sport of going back over 70 years, totaling over 100,000 hours. Only 1 percent of that is currently available to see on WWE Network, including some pretty sizable holes. So here’s my list of things that are not yet available on WWE network and totally need to be.
