Saturday Six – Shows You Gave Up On
Saturday Six, Television on January 3, 2015 at 1:51 pm by JohnScottSo a new year rolled in on Thursday. It did not bring in hoverboards and holograms like it was supposed to, but a new year means New Year’s Resolutions. It’s only been 2 days, but I’m pretty sure I’ve already given up on my resolution to lose some weight. I’ll just buy some new pants, that’s way less effort. In much the same way as most people give up resolutions within a few days, sometimes there are TV series you just have to give up on. Sure, the trailers looked cool and appeared to be full of such promise, but you keep watching and watching, and after a while you realize you no longer enjoy the show and just have to throw up your hands and go “I’m done!”.

Saturday Six – Christmas Movies
Movies, Saturday Six on December 27, 2014 at 3:29 pm by JohnScottYes, I realize Christmas was two days ago. But if movies have taught me anything (and they have, practically everything I know I learned from movies), it’s that Christmas isn’t just a day on a calendar, but a feeling that can last the whole year through if you really try. So here’s a list of my favorite Christmas films you can watch anytime to get some Christmas cheer.
Since last week I discussed my love for Sweetums, I figured this week I would expand out and cover the rest of the Muppets. For this list I stuck mostly to The Muppet Show and its follow up productions, so no Fraggles or Sesame Street characters. Those will show up in another list sometime. I should also probably mention that my favorite Muppet film as a kid was The Muppets Take Manhattan, which I watched dozens of times as a kid, so that may have skewed the list a little bit.
Let’s just do something completely different this week. Just a fun list of monsters. Not all of them scary, but all of them big and hairy. Oh hey, that rhymed!
There were a ton of people who came out this week for Dojo Wars. Unfortunately they were all other wrestlers. That’s because this week was the first week of the new Dojo Wars format. Now it is an actual Dojo War, where students from two different wrestling schools face off throughout the night. I like the new format, as it lends itself to more unpredictability and an influx of new talent we haven’t seen before, plus less repetition in matchmaking, so hopefully no more best-of-9 match series. This week, the home team lead by trainer Drew Gulak faced off against the students from Biff Busick’s training academy.
As you may have seen over on the Facebook page, this year for Halloween I went as Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Because if you’re gonna do something, you should do it all the way, this necessitated that I shave my head. Now that I myself am bald, as I look around, I see far more bald people than I ever noticed. So that’s what brings me to this list of people I immediately think of when you say “bald”.
I missed the last few CZW events becasue I was on the opposite coast at Comikaze. Looks like they did a good job at those shows promoting tonight’s event, as the crowd was almost entirely new faces and only about 3 regulars, coming out to witness the finale of the Tournament of Valor. This lead to a somewhat quiet crowd that didn’t really react or know when to get involved, but the show was still good. Any show that ends in a locker room clearing brawl is always good, right? So let’s hop right to it!
