So content has been light of late, because I left the frosty confines of the east coast to venture west, to the land of shitty hotel wifi and sun, California, to stop at Disneyland and take in Stan Lee’s Comikaze last weekend. This is the first con in probably 5 or more years I was not there as a vendor, and was just there to have fun. I highly recommend going if you have a chance. I only went Friday and about half of Saturday (my feet could only handle so much of wearing wooden sandals), so I missed some of the marquee events (like the Power Rangers Megaforce panel, will they just get to the epic battle already!), but it was still a great time.
Not a lot of people braved the rain to come out to Dojo Wars this week, but it was a run time anyway. We got all four matches from the quarter finals of the Tournament of Valor, a 4 man elimination main event, and a bonus 8 man tag featuring Dick Justice. I say again. There was a match involving a guy named Dick Justice.

Saturday Six – Pop Culture Mice
Saturday Six, Television on October 18, 2014 at 11:55 am by JohnScottAs promised, I round out the hierarchy of cartoon animals this week with mice. Come for my rant about why Mickey Mouse doesn’t make any sense to me. Stay for my tale of childhood trauma in a bathroom at a pizza place. Good times!
This week was round two of the Tournament of Valor, so we had 4 best two out of three falls matches, an 8 man elimination tag match, an old man yelling, and I almost got someone killed. All around it was a fun time.

Saturday Six – Pop Culture Cats
Saturday Six, Television on October 3, 2014 at 9:00 am by JohnScottI’m kind of doing the animal hierarchy backwards, since last week was all about dogs, and this week has gone to the cats. Will next week be about mice? It’s a definite possibility.
So the other day I caught one of those maudlin Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercials that everyone hates seeing because they are just so depressing. No one wants to see that shit, because really, who doesn’t love dogs? No one, that’s who. That’s an awfully depressing way to start an article. But it got me to thinking about all the cool dogs in pop culture that everyone loves.
Last night was the start of the 10 week, 16 person Tournament of Valor, with each match being scheduled for 2 falls. The 2 falls format means no squash matches (hooray for no more Claxton/Pikard matches for a while!). There were a lot of new faces this week who put on a good show. The tournament hasn’t really been settled down into brackets yet, so we’ll just have to play by ear week to week to see which winners advance against who. I’m gonna try a bit of a different formula this week, because of the tournament for one, and secondly, I finally realized my camera has a sports setting, so more pictures that aren’t rest holds and less yakking.
