I’ve discussed my love of Zenescope before. Now, in addition to their Grimm Fairy Tales Animated Series, it looks like there is going to be a live action television series based on their series of Wonderland books.

Today is 7-11 Day!
Today is 7-11 Day, that fantastical day where 7-Eleven celebrates it’s “birthday” as it were. But instead of receiving presents, them give them out to customers. So today, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, be sure to stop by your local store to pick up your free 7.11 ounce Slurpee. Sure it’s an odd size, but it’s free, and free is awesome. Standard warning applies. At participating stores, while supplies last, sorry Tennessee!
If you have a ton of disposable income, (about 1.2 million dollars worth), you can own just about every console game ever made by Nintendo, Sega, and NEC.

Friday Five – Patriotic Characters
So I’m a little late, what with the Fourth of July falling in the middle of the week, but this is the closest we’re going to get this year to a holiday falling on a Friday, so I went with it. This week’s topic is patriotic characters.

Today’s Crazy Comic Ad comes to us from the heyday of Marvel Comics, October 1991, from issue 3 of the official Terminator 2: Judgement Day comic book adaptation. And it’s a real doozy. Be sure to check it out full size to really get the effect of the craziness.

Stan Lee’s voice is just pure awesomesauce
So the new Amazing Spider-Man movie comes out here in the states tomorrow. It’s already been out overseas for two weeks, and it’s on pace to outsell The Avengers, as if that were even possible. I for one am looking forward to it, even if it seems kind of needless to reboot a 10 year old franchise. Emma Stone makes a much better Gwen Stacy than Kristen Dunst made a Mary Jane anyday. So you know what goes hand in hand with big summer movies? Lots of tie in merchandise! One such example is this awesome book I found while doing one of my standard toy runs at the local Target: A read along story book of Spider-Man’s origins, as read by “The Man” himself, Stan Lee!

Friday Five – Comic Artists
Great writing is only half the story when it comes to comics. If I just wanted something to read I have plenty of books. No, the great thing about comics is all the visuals. While a bad artist can take a great story and make it unreadable, a good artist can elevate a bad story to new heights with creative and evocative artwork.

Friday Five – Most Satisfying Sequels
I think it’s become obvious that Hollywood these days is pretty much out of ideas. It’s why we end up with so many shitty sequels to movies no one asked for sequels for. I don’t think anyone was ever like “You know, I really wanna know how those two guys meet in that movie that’s now 10 years old”, yet we got Dumb and Dumberer: How Harry Met Lloyd. While many sequels are quick cash ins (see Aladdin IV: Jafar May Need Glasses), many times the sequel ends up being far superior to original film.
