RETROspective: Olympic Busts – Dan and Dave
If you were being a good American, you spent the weekend watching hours and hours of an unprecedented amount of Olympic coverage. Because there is a massive amount of airtime to fill, the broadcasters try to set up a bunch of compelling stories for us to watch. And a lot of times they get it right.

Friday Five – Favorite Action Figures
It’s been a very long time since I’ve actually played with action figures. Sure, I have a TON of toys now, but that’s mostly because my mother wouldn’t buy me anything with guns as a child, so I never got G.I. Joes or Transformers as a kid, so now as an adult I go buy whatever I want to fill that hole in my childhood. Most of them now are for display and I never really play with them, except for some of my starships. I’m gonna try to remember what toys I would have used as a kid.

Fun with craft store impulse buys!
I get an hour for lunch every day. I usually spend it at the large shopping center directly across the road from my office with my friend Kat from KatsAnimeHats.com. Since it only takes a half hour to get over there and eat, we usually have some extra time to kill, and because she’s always making hats or some other such thing, we spend a lot of time at the Jo-Ann Fabric. She’s even the mayor on FourSquare we’re there so often. Now I don’t have any real artistic talent at all, so I’m just along for the ride, literally. But I noticed something on our last trip. As you are herded through to the registers, they have several racks of impulse craft buys that are strategically placed at kid eye level, all for $1. Since most kids dragged to craft store probably don’t want to be there, if they make enough of a fuss, they should be able to leave with at least something. So I decided to pick some up that fit the general theme here at InsufficientScotty to see just how much fun you can have at the craft store with the stuff your mother would buy you for a dollar to keep you from causing a scene in public.
Allow me to blow your mind. There are no actual princesses in The Princess Bride. And technically no brides either.

Friday Five – Batman Villians
Everyone loves Batman, how can you not? He is simply a total badass. He’s one of the few superheroes who has no real powers of which to speak of. His super power is really just lots of money and time. But even so, he stands toe to toe with some of the most powerful heroes of all time, like Green Lantern or Superman, and he’s managed to beat both in fights in various media, using nothing but his smarts.
Well, almost everyone loves Batman. He has a vast array of enemies in his rogues gallery who want nothing more than to see him dead. Out of all of comicdom, I would have to say Batman has the deepest and most interesting set of arch nemeses. Some say they only exist because Batman encourages them. Some say Batman only exists because of them. Maybe we’ll never know, but one we we do know for sure, we love us some awesome villains!
It was on this day 43 years ago that man first stepped foot upon another world. It’s important to remember, in these days of a shuttered shuttle program and no clear direction for the future of manned space missions in NASA what we were once able to accomplish.

A mashed potato vending machine? Yes Please!
While we aren’t quite yet in the future days of food pills and dehydrated pizzas, we do seem to be getting ever closer. A few years ago Wawa pushed out their f’real milkshake machines, which are awesome, because where else are you gonna get a milkshake at 3 am? Nowhere, that’s where. But now, at 7-Eleven’s in Singapore, they also have hot mashed potato machines, with gravy. Whhaaaaaaa? Check out this video action.

Friday Five – Uplifting or Inspirational Songs
With the Olympic Trials upon us, and their endless overproduced puff piece human interest stories, it got me thinking about my favorite uplifting or inspirational music.
I’ve discussed my love of Zenescope before. Now, in addition to their Grimm Fairy Tales Animated Series, it looks like there is going to be a live action television series based on their series of Wonderland books.
