Friday Five – Guilty Pleasure Movies

I generally like to think of myself as having a very refined palate when it comes to movies, being able to spot the crappy ones from a mile away. But sometimes, I just can’t help but to love a polished turd of a film.

Friday Five – Movies You’ve Embarrassingly Never Seen

There are tons of movies out there. No matter how hard you try, there’s no way to watch them all and compromises need to be made. But sometimes there are films that pretty much everyone in your life agrees are good and you should see, but you just never get around to them and are embarrassed that you never get to join in all the conversations about them. Those conversations usually end with “How have you never seen Movie X?”

There aren’t so many singular movies I haven’t seen that are embarrassing, except maybe cinematic classics like Citizen Kane or It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s more groups or genres of movies that I’ve missed out on. The below list is in no real particular order.

Friday Five – Things That Make You Cry, Volume 1

Lie down, try not to cry, cry a lot.

I went under the assumption of two ground rules: The “Jurassic Bark” episode of Futurama and The Iron Giant are both assumed, as if you don’t cry during both of those, you are a soulless demon of a person. Also, these days I’m kinda broken in that pretty much any time an orchestra swells, I’ll break down weeping. I used to be a hard emotionless person, but my ex girlfriend taught me how to feel, much like Laurie Laughlin did to Jerry on Seinfeld. Unfortunately, I haven’t been scared straight yet by George, being as I am pretty much George, so I just have to deal with it.

Friday Five – Frustrating Games

I think screaming bullshit, and declaring that the computer is a liar and a dirty cheater is a universal experience for all gamers. While it’s usually not true that the game is actively screwing with you, some games seem designed to punish players rather than entertain them.

Friday Five – Foreign TV Shows

We as Americans tend to be jaded and assume that our TV shows are the best and only thing out there. When in fact, the entertainment industries in a lot of non-US countries is really kicking our ass and making awesome shows that Americans would never dream of showing. You may need to search them out, but they are well worth the effort.

Friday Five – Romantic Comedies and Chick Flicks

So yesterday was Valentine’s Day, so I guess today would be a good day to put my vast knowledge of Chick Flicks to good use. I’m comfortable enough in my masculinity to say that yes, I love me a good Romantic Comedy. So what? Wanna fight about it?

Alot of these ended up on my Desert Island Movie list or I’ve mentioned them before, but screw it, I’m gonna use them again. Also, I’m not using my first choice of The Terminator, though it’s totally a time crossed romance when you think about it.

Friday Five – Movie Franchises

There are plenty of good media franchises, but it’s hard to find one where more than 75% of them are all good. So there were some choices I didn’t make because too many films in the series I didn’t like or just don’t hold up to the original. I tried to pick series where almost all of them were good.

Friday Five – Video Game Franchises

This one is a tough one for me, as I’ve never really played many games besides Super Dodge Ball, Bad News Baseball, and Star Trek Online.
